Atacama Desert
Add three nights to our Patagonia Explorer trip and discover the other-worldly
beauty of the Atacama desert—the driest desert in the world.
Beginning in the city of Calama, we drive to the village of San Pedro
de Atacama, where we spend the next three nights. During the following
days we explore a variety of geologic formations and archaeological sites—the
Valley of the Moon, named for its strange colors and rock formations;
the ruins of the Inca fortress of Quitor; the Tatio Geysers, at 14,107
foot elevation, the highest geyser field in the world; the Chaxa Lagoon,
where flamingos and other Andean birds nest; the Pakana Sentinels, a
group of volcanic columns; salt flats, volcanoes, and more.
What’s included: Domestic air, land transportation, 3 nights
hotels, guided tours, 20 meals. The maximum group size is 16.
